| SUMMARY: from exracting the remnants of the DNA left behind from the dinosaurs millions of years ago, recreating dinosaurs in a lab and then growing them in captivity on an island off the coast of Costa Rica, John Hammond (owner of INGEN) has found his new theme park, Jurassic Park. A bioengineering company, Ingen has developed breakthrough technology for genetic cloning and plans for making their clones part of the world's first dinosaur theme park are underway. After finishing the massive construction of Isla Nublar (home of Jurassic Park) Hammond invites a group of guest, including respected experts and scientist from different fields and his own grandchildren to behold his miraculous creation before he opens his astonishing one of a kind park for the world. When the guest arrive, they are blown away with what Hammond has created, he has become god on his own island, recreating and growing what only existed millions of years ago, dinosaurs. Meanwhile, as the guest take the tour of the island, something goes terribly wrong. A corrupt employee, Dennis Nedry shuts down the power in hopes of stealing the dinosaur embryos for a rivaling company. By shutting down the power, everything in the park malfunctions and the dinosaurs are loose in the park.
MAINCHARACTER: although Alan Grant is not the only struggling protagonist on the island, much of the perspective in the book comes from him.
